Epic story line time =P

Erwin Rommel was a german soldier in WW1.
He fought in battles in France Italy and Romania.
at de time the trenches were well known to attract wild ghost type pokemon.
the soldiers didn't really mind. at least they were good company.
they loved to prank the soldiers and sometimes grew close to them.
when Rommel's battalion was hit by an gas attack both men and pokemon tried to flee out of the trenches.
when Rommel saw that a Gasty was trapped in a poisonous gas cloud he didn't think twice.
after he almost died trying to save the gastly, the gastly was greatfull and never left his side again.
the became friends and stayed together even after the end of WW1.

when WW2 began Rommel fought once again for the German Empire.
after his succes in the war against Poland, Hitler gave him the choice to choose any devision and lead it as its commander.

Rommel chose a panzer division and led it when the campaign for France began.
His Panzer devision became known as the GHOST DEVISION because of its unkown location and rapid movement.
Rommel was also known cut of communcation with his superiors making his location even unkown for the German army itself.
survivors of his attacks where known to mention seeing a gastly scouting before the attack started.

after the succes of the occupation of France Rommel was promoted to lead the africa-corps.

in 1944 Rommel plotted against Hitler and tried with others to assassinate him.
After the failed atempt he commited suicide when he was arrested.

there are stories that is grave his haunted by one particular gastly still waiting for the return of his master.

I'm sure the Japanese would have shared their Pokemon with their Axis allies.  The Nazis gave the Japanese the Immortal Heart of Frankenstein's Monster.
